*THESE SOAP ARE A TYPE OF LYE SOAP, ALTHOUGH NO ACTIVE LYE REMAINS IN OUR BODY SOAPS *
I buy my goat milk from Amish friends. The nannies are allowed to graze in fresh air and sunshine.
Being vegetarian, I will not use animal fats in my soaps. Many soaps are indeed made from rendered lard (pig fat), tallow (rendered beef fat) or other animal fats. I also no longer use olive oil. Olive oil is very prone to rancidity.
Our soaps are superfatted. That simply means that there is extra oil in the soap. Without superfatting, the soap would be quite harsh and drying to the skin.
I use American-grown jojoba oil to superfat. Jojoba ("ho-ho-ba") oil is a natural plant oil similar to the natural oil in our own skin.
Essential oils are derived from various parts of plants. It is usually obtained by distillation of flowers, leaves and sometimes stems and roots. They give amazing fragrance, but also may impart healing properties such as anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal.
Pigments are simply ground minerals. To keep these soaps natural, I only use pure earth pigments to color them. Some bars have no added color. Now, to clarify: truly natural pigments mined from the earth were found to contain traces of toxic substances such as arsenic. Scientists developed techniques to manufacture these pigments in labs so that they are absolutely pure versions of the mined minerals.
